I have a 1940 Mercury 4 door sedan. Somewhere there are new rubber weather strips available for rear 1/4 flipper side windows. Steele, Metro, and a number of parts house do not have anything that will work. Anyone have any ideas?

Call Metro and talk to them about making your own. The used to have a write up available that described making the seals using 2 of their extrusions.

I went to Steele and others as Tom suggested and more or less was told to you know what. what I did was ordered from C&G, three different rear seals and found that the seal for a 41 Merc (51A-773540-S) came the closest to fitting except one side was too long, after measuring (TWICE), I cut approx. 2" out of the front vertical section a little at a time ,as not to over cut, making sure it fit, then glued the joint. If you don't look too close you would not be able to tell. tried to add more pics.

Oldguy You did a great job on fitting the 41-48 seal into your 40 Merc. That is a great tip and should be submitted to the V-8 Times "It Worked For Me" section. Mr Windle is always looking for items for this section. You must post each photo in a separate post.

I hunted all over for new rear quarter window rubbers for my 1940 Mercury four door sedan. Then I found out that the 1940 Ford rubbers were the same, they fit perfect. Not true for the front door wing windows however. Using 1940 Ford rubbers, it was necessary to cut and fit.
