Actually the "C" is Ford's code for Mercury. A '49-'50 engine is an 8CM-the "8" coming from 194"8" when the design was introduced. 1CM represents an updated design from 1951. In 1952, the code became EAC.

Hi, I am looking at some spec sheets and I see with the Merc motors, they refer models as " CM " on the 1949/1950-53 motor, but on the 1950-51 motor it is called "type" and identified as " 1CM " ? I am assuming the " M" is for Mercury, but what would the " C " and " 1 " be refering to ? Thxs Oldguy
