VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

The passenger hood hinge spring broke so I went over to Carpenters and bought 2. It was the original spring so I figure the other will break too. Well
I compared the mounting hooks on the new spring with the old one. Both hook ends face in the same direction on the old spring. The ends on the new spring face opposite directions. Does that make a difference? I can only get the new spring on one way but the bottom hook will fall out unless it is under constant pressure, which it will be. At least that is what it looks like will happen if I can get it fastened at both ends. My next question is: what is the best way to stretch the spring to get it mounted? Brute strength, or is there a tool that can get leverage on the hook over its retainer?

Without seeing your new springs and their mounting, I cannot tell if you will have problems with them staying on.

To install the springs, I clamp one end in a vise and bend the spring so I can insert washers between the coils. Then I install the spring and operate the support to remove the washers.

Here is a pic of one of the hood springs on my '46 Coupe. As you see, both ends are hooked in the same direction. Don't worry about the spring falling off, because they never go out of tension once installed. I watched my spring travel today, and noted that there is the least tension when the hood is in the full up position. The layout of the hinge pulls the spring longer as the hood gets closer to closed. Tom's suggestion with the washers is a good one, and I have used that for other applications, and it works.

Thanks for the pics. Woodie's pic shows what my old spring looks like. The new spring has one hook 180 degrees opposed to the other. Will it still work? Yeah I noticed that the spring has more tension as the hood closes and thanks for the washer idea. My son has a hook type tool that came with his trampoline that he had to use to assemble the springs to the unit. I'll try both things if you think the spring will work with opposed hooks.

Since last post I bought 2 hood arm springs from Carpenters and have tried to install one to replace the broken one. Here's the problem. The spring they sell now does not look like the picture that woodie posted which is what I need. The springs I got have the ends 180 degrees opposed to each other. The pics show the two open ends facing each other.
I called Carpenters and was told they don't make the spring like the picture in their catalog or on line anymore, but the spring like they sold me. I then checked the Drake catalog and it has the same picture. I will contact them today to check if they really have the pictured spring. I know the two companies supply each other so we'll see.
My son helped me try to put the spring on last night and the hood arm started to bend. Yes, he's very strong. Now I'm concerned that IF I can get the spring mounted, will the arms bend when I close the hood? Oh, ends that are 180 degrees opposed also have a different bend coming from the coil portion to the beginning of the hook. I hope this is fairly clear to everyone. My questions are, does anyone have experience in installing this type of spring? Does anyone know of another source where I might order the correct spring? Or does anyone have one they don't need?

You might try Michael Driscoll (?) at 3rd Gen Auto, Former President of the EV8Club. He posts on Ford Barn and also sells on EBAY.

Thanks, Paul. As I said earlier I was calling Drakes today. Just got off the phone with them. Initially I was told that they didn't have them anymore, but one of the guys went to the warehouse and found some. The hooks are just like Woodie posted earlier. I ordered one which is $10.00 with $14.00 for shipping. Should have it Monday. When I get it and check it out, I'll let ya'll know if it is the right one. If so, at least we know we can still get them, if anyone needs one.

We replace the hood hinges with full assembles from C&G. Almost all old hinges have worn pivots and weak springs, and using new hinge arms and springs will make hood adjustment much easier. The assemblies allow the hood to drop into place as the hood is closed. The $80 price for the pair is worth sparing the frustration of trying to use old assemblies.
