I recently wanted to remove the rear brake drums on my 1937 that has sat for many years and one was rusted so that it would not move. I was able to loosen it up by tapping on the drum lightly with a hammer and prying the drum back and forth to break up the rust bond.

From what I can tell, I have backed both adjustments all the way back and still no movement. I’m guessing that somebody added juice breaks at some point to this car. (Not sure if that info helps) I have not tried just pulling the car yet as I was afraid that I might break something.

When you jacked up the rear of the car did you get both rear wheels off of the ground? If you did, you should be able to rotate both wheels by hand. If you can't, the brakes on the wheel that is locked up may be stuck or rusted to the drum. If you are sure the handbrake is fully released and the wheel still won't turn, back off the brake adjustments to see if you can free up the wheel. If when you go to start the car nothing happens except for the starter cable getting warm, the starter gear is probably stuck to the flywheel ring gear. Sometimes this is caused by loose starter mounting bolts which allow the starter to get cocked and be out of alignment with the flywheel. You might be able to rock the car backward with the transmission in a forward gear to free the starter gear from the ring gear. Once it breaks loose, you should hear a loud noise and you will subsequently be able to start the car.

I’m having a couple of issues with this old Ford today. First of all the passenger side rear wheel is stuck. I jacked up the rear of the car and the drivers side wheel will turn but not the other side. What’s my best plan of action?? Also, the last time I started the car it started just fine. Today I try to start it and the starter is not doing anything. The cable on the starter is getting warm so I’m sure that it’s getting power. Thoughts??
