Early distributor electronic conversion

People keep trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. The original distributor is an engineering tour-de-force. The dual point setup and the direct camshaft drive result in a reliable and high performance design. Get it properly set up on a Sun or Allen machine and leave it alone. These things last for many many miles before needing replacement. Back in the day that meant installing an exchange unit from a licensed re-conditioner all ready to go. It ain't broke!! it doesn't need to be fixed!!

For my money, there is no way to improve on the standard ignition system in top notch condition in our old cars, unless you are building a high performance racing engine.

Philbin Manufacturing can convert your distributor using a Pertronix module (http://www.philbingroup.com/fhproducts.htm). I used one for about five years until it abruptly died without warning. I've since gone back to points and frankly can't tell the difference. Also, as they say, points will always get you home.

Who converts the early 3 bolt "helmut" distributor to electronic? I was browsing and saw one that had been done on a green 40 tudor using what was called the "pulse" method. Anyone familiar with this? Thank you; Evan
