My bad, I should have said the brake pedal return spring. I have the spring and I think it attaches to the pivot pin and then the bell housing somehow. I just don't see how. Thanks again.

Not sure what spring you are looking at. Ford calls the spring at the top of each set of shoes a Brake Retracting Spring. There is a slotted hole at the top of each shoe and the spring hooks from one to the other. As Ken says there is a lot of tension in these springs and you really need a vise grip pliers or better yet a brake spring tool to pull the spring far enough to drop in the second hole.

Ive had a couple of 41's but cant for the life of me remember where it goes. Im not being a wise guy BUT it should be kind of obvious where it goes to retract the shoes. Where does it almost fit. They have to be stretched pretty good to fit in the opposite hole. I use a pr of vice grips to hold an stretch the spring to get it in the other hole. If everything else is attachet to the backing plate it should be obvious where it goes. Give us feed back if successful. ? ken ct.
