Raise the engine enough to clear the front mount pads, support the transmission with a jack or blocks, then pull the engine straight out until the trans input shaft clears the clutch and t. o. bearing, then raise it up as needed.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. Guess it does make more sense to remove the engine and transmission separately, instead of trying to reduce time working under the car. - R.J.

Use the exhaust manifold bolts for attaching the load leveler. You will need longer chains. Make sure that they are rated for 4,000 lbs. You will probably have to remove all of the front end sheet metal.

Why as a unit? Much easier to handle in two pieces. Either way you have to take the shifter top off of the transmission. I assume your grill & hood & headlights are off, how about the front fenders? With the engine and tranny swinging around, you are more likely to have trouble in one unit.

That's going to be difficult without a load leveler. Here's a good one for $55 from Amazon. Alan

Planning to remove the engine and transmission from my '35 sedan as one unit. Someone please advise best lifting points for fore/aft balance. Thanks! - R.J.
