I have tried different gear lubes, synthetic lube mixed with synthetic grease from advice years ago in Dick Flynns column. Nothing really stayed in there but for some reason STP does and I have been using it successfully in my 37 steering box. Went to check it this spring and was surprised it did not need topped off.

I have been using John Deere Corn Head Grease in my '35 steering boxes since 2013. This works great for me. Little or no leaking with improved/easier steering. Prior to JDCHG, I tried every type of oil imaginable and they all leaked out. Granted my steering box needs new seals/gaskets, but by using the JD grease, I can put that job off until some major repair is necessary, i.e. removing the engine for rebuild.

For years I've used STP in my steering boxes. The I read about John Deere Corn Head Grease. Last fall on the AACA Sentimental Tour in New Hampshire I saw a John Deere Dealer and bought two tubes of Corn Head Grease. While the STP would leak some when real hot, I'm hoping the JD product works a well as I've heard on this Forum.

I have used STP and/or a "Motor Honey" engine oil additive in manual steering gear boxes for over fifty years, works great with very little evidence of leakage..
