My '39 Fordor came with a modification to the original oil bath air filter. I like the size because it retains the aesthetic of the old filter but uses a modern paper element. There are no ID markings on the filter or the metal housing. I am having trouble finding a new filter element. The dimensions are OD= 6.25", ID = 5.125", Height = 2.5" Does anyone recognize this? Manufacturer? Where were they sold?

That looks like the standard wire mesh type of air cleaner that has had a piece welded on to extend the top mounting. Here is a site that lets you search for an air filter by size. http://www.rycofilters.com.au/catalogue/dimension and here is another http://www.knfilters.com/search/universal.aspx Be aware that the round filters are becoming obsolete because they are not used on the newer cars.

I don't know the filter type, but I do like the looks of that one. With decades of driving my 34's I've never had a problem associated with lack of filtration, but that one sure looks better than stock. Question is the bottom part still an oil tray?

That filter looks like an aftermarket filter that came with a chrome housing. Check the website for Cal Custom who has made a lot of specialty air cleaners. If you find one be sure to buy two or three. Another possibility is to try K and N Filters site. They make reuseable filters and have a lot of different sizes for aftermarket housings. Take a look at Spectre products part # 4806.It's very close to what you need. www.spectreperformance.com

Thanks! It looks like the Spectre site has what I need. It's only 1/8 inch diameter over and I can live with that! The photo details and dimensions look identical in all other respects. $6.95 and free shipping sounds fair to me. Regarding the filter holder: This unit looks like it was custom designed and perhaps welded or formed to close off what would have been the old oil tray. I can't tell if it was an old oil unit converted or if it was something made from scratch to look like the old unit.
