I have a front seat that I was told is out of a 40 ford 2door car ? it is a bench seat that has the hinges on the top of the seat so the back of the seat lifts up it does not fold forward to let people into the back like a split front folding seat does it has wood on the sides & is about 48 inches wide. does anyone know what model car came with a seat like this ?

It's probably from a coupe with a package shelf. Could be anywhere from 35-40. Without a photo it's tough to tell the year.Do you see a metal tag on the springs with a part #?

Any 2 dr sedan would have had a bench seat with split back rests that fold forward, otherwise how would you get in the back seat ?? The seat you have is for a coupe w/NO back seat. I know 35-36 coupes have a back rest that swings up.Hinged at the top. ken ct.

Vern, I am new to the club and was just scrolling through the various posts when I came across yours. I have a 1935 Ford coupe and I am in need of a seat. Would you be interested in selling your? Thanks Bill

Bill, I believe that you would have to make some serious modifications to fit a 40 seat in a 35. the cushion is 1" longer, the mounting system is different and the 40 seat may be wider. I believe that the coupe with the package shelf used a lift up seat through 1948.

Tom, Are you certain it is from a 1940? I don't have a seat to take measurements from but I have 52" at the beltline, inside dimension, and the original seat base with the seat tracks are still in the car. If you are interested in selling the seat, perhaps I could simply use some measurements from your seat to ascertain if it will fit in my coupe.

Bill, I don't have a seat for sale, Vern is the one that wanted to know if he had a correct 40 seat. There is a classified section of this web site, where you could post a free ad under parts wanted.
