I've had a 1938 muffler on order from my local parts store for over a year. Luckily I'm still restoring the car so I haven't gotten desperate yet, but the time is near. Has anyone some idea who can supply one? Carpenter, C&G, Early Ford etc don't have them. Mac's has a repop listed for $290. Is there an alternate?

The only other suggestion might be to go to a large muffler shop such as Midas or Monro and see if they have anything that is close. Unless this is going to be a full on resto, few look under the car.

One alternative might be the type of muffler which Ford used on 1963 and 1964 Galaxies, although the inlet and outlet diameters would likely be different.

Roy Nacewicz typically has them. The one he sells is in my opinion the best repop available. It's a beauty!

Waldron Exhaust may be able to supply you with an aftermarket muffler that will fit. http://www.waldronexhaust.com/ My other suggestion would be to check all of the vendors listed under the Vendors category on the home page of this site.

TomO makes a good suggestion. Check all the vendors on this site and also those in the V-8 Times. Someone may have one on the shelf.

I have been looking for a muffler for my 1939 pickup. Most of the venders list a separate muffler for the 1938 and 1939 mufflers. I don't know what the difference is. I have contacted Job Lot, C & G, and Carpenter and all are out of 1939 mufflers and have no date for a back order.
