Trying to sort out my 53 spotlight issue- it is disconnected under the dash when I got it, reconnecting it did nothing, connecting the bulb directly to the battery demonstrated a dead bulb so I sourced one from bulbs.com, a 6.4 V spotlight supposedly for the 53. It worked great connecting it directly to the battery, so I reinstalled it and connected the under dash wire to the radio feed- probably a error- it wouldn't turn on and the radio wire and the spotlight wire both got red hot- I plan to rewire the spotlight assembly, any ideas what could be wrong- a short? Thanks!

its a simple circuit , hot wire to the switch , then from switch to the bulb . the other wire from the bulb has to go to a ground. You may have short on the power wire ,, with the bulb out use an ohmeter to check out the power wire or see if it sparks when you scratch it to a power source.
