My Fordomatic service manual says to refill using type "A" fluid which may not be easily obtained. I went to an Amsoil synthetic fluid, "Super Shift", for my Fordomatic which is compatible with Type F fluid which was commonly used in earlier For transmissions. I've read that the Dextron replacement fluid many use today does not provide the friction protection of the type F. Would love to hear from a tranny expert on this forum.

What type of tranny fluid does a 1951 Fordomatic use?
