How do you distinguish between heads for flat top pistons and those for dome top pistons? My parts book does not indicate and difference. I've looked at pictures, mostly on eBay, and just can't tell. Is there any problem using heads for domed pistons on an engine with flat pistons? Thanks

Dome piston heads have part # 48-6049/50 or 68-6049/50 while flat piston heads have part # 40-6049/50. They can be identified from the difference in the shape of the combustion chambers. See image.

Good info here already but adding there are cast heads [ replacements ?] with 18- part #'s and also some without part #'s . Many original 33 aluminum heads are not marked at all . All I have talked about here are for flat top pistons .
