Working on '38 Pickup 85hp. On the carb, in place of the center bowl plug, there is a brass fitting with a u-shaped copper tube that terminates just above the bowl. Can anyone let me know the function of the fitting/tube? (The threads stripped on the carb when I was removing it, so I'll need to go back with an oversize center plug - re-installation of the fitting/tube is doubtful.) Thanks in advance.

The tube in question was the fuel supply for a gas heater. Probably a Stewart Warner "South Wind" brand, aftermarket installation. Can't help with the stripped thread.

For the hole repair contact Charlie Schwindler from the V8 Times ad section services offered, or Max Musgrove from the Stromberg web site. Max is the Stromberg warranty repair man and can repair older Stromberg as well.

Thanks so much for the info. Had no idea r.e. the heater. Plan to use a 10mm/125 plug on the stripped hole.

That "plug" is where the emulsion tube enters the carb body, if you have a Stromberg 97. I am attaching a diagram of that carb.

On the Stromberg the main jets are under the two outside plugs, the emulsion tubes are behind the main jets. The center plug is access point for the one way valve that fuel, in the float bowl, passes through to fill the accelerator pump well.
