Can someone direct me to a place to buy a kit? What type of kit is recommended? Is a under dash switch recommended. Can anyone give me an idea of how much labor is involved in installing turn signals. Lotsb ofv questions but I have never had to do this before. The switch comes with a built-in hazard flasher switch which is nice to have on an old car that is driven. If you do a little extra work you will be able to house your front turn signal bulbs under the stock '40 Ford parking light lenses. They are too small and dim to be of much use. We compete in traffic with lights that look like they ere ripped from a Vegas sign. Search for a set using LED bulbs. The third brake light LED bar should be a required addition to any old car driven in today's traffic. If you can't get bright lights, don't bother with turn signal kits. trjford8 05-09-2013 @ 8:04 PM reply profile send p.m. Senior Posts: 4222 Joined: Oct 2009 You can use your front parking lights or buy one of the kits with a dual filament bulb that allows you to keep the parking lights and also have turn signals. If you check with Bob Drake he has a new reflector kit for the 40 taillights that make them much brighter. I haven't installed mine yet but they look like they will work well. Most of the turn switches are big and ugly. American Auto wire makes a toggle switch that you can mount under the dash that works perfect and comes with instructions. I've also used early VW bus signal units. They are small, mount on the steering column and you can paint them the color of the column. Most of the units do not self cancel , so you need to consider mounting some small indicator lights where you can see them or install a buzzer that you can hear, for a reminder to turn them off. It's not bright enough in the bright sun during the day so I always add hand/arm signals. I had to put halogen bulbs in to make them brighter and had to make it blink and added a buzzer to remember to turn it off. Very nostalgic I think. Old Henry (The older I get, the better old looks.) Flasher and buzzer attached to a small plate which I mounted behind the dash. I installed this under the dash on my '39 Mercury in such a way that the toggle can be easily reached but barely seen thus preserving an original look. I used motorcycle turn signal lamps in front which are bright but only 3/4 x 1" and mounted them on the front bumper brackets with fog light clamps.They are visible but not intrusive and justified for "safety".
