The Smithy glasspack is not too loud, is easy to fit and less expensive than a stock muffler.

Stock mufflers? Been there, done that. It's correct but boring and you miss the best part of the flathead V8 engine, the sound. (Like a Harley with a Honda muffler) I use one cherry bomb on the show cars & my 35 Pickup to keep the purists off my tail pipe (although they look different than stock, they sound is great. I use 2 cherry bombs on the drivers. Not to loud, but just nice. I've heard others that were to loud, but don't know what they use.

Other than the quality of the materials, I haven't seen much, if any, difference in straight through mufflers. As in most things, price does make a difference in the life span of the product. As to sound, it is a subjective subject. Those of us who have dual exhaust systems with these "mufflers" simply enjoy the "music" produced.

I have had Smithys on my '41 for 14 years with no problems such as rust out etc, The car has duals (ya gotta have duals!) and I love the sound. I am pleased with them.

This topic will stir the pot, but I like Brockman Mellowtone glasspacks.

I am replacing the muffler on my 37 truck. Does anyone have any feedback on using a glasspack muffler? Porter, Smithy, Cherry Bomb or anything else. I'd like to hear a little flathead melodyon my ride. Lenny
