I have both a 1936 and 1940 Ford convertible (both are maroon) and would like to know the correct color for the front floor mats for each and a good source in the correct color. Also on the 1940 convertible, the rear floor has a taupe carpet and am wondering if this is correct? Some suppliers show black only, but I want to go for the original color if it s not black. Thanks, Fritz47

Dennis Carpenter is remaking the floor mats in the "Taupe" color but I do not know if all the different years are for sale at this point. Give his shop a call.

I will call Carpenter today - looked at his web site last night and it seems that he shows both 1936 and 1940 in "Benton Gray" and "Black" (No Taupe except for 1935). They also list clips for 1932-1934 only (not sure if clips were used in 1936 & 1940). Fritz

Benton Grey would be correct for a 1936 front mat. There was a mat clip on either side of the tranmission hump that held the front mat in place. See pg 44 of The 1935-36 Food Book.

ALL 1940 Ford passenger cars received a Benton Gray mat originally. No such thing a s an authentic black mat. The carpeting in the back seat area is correct in color if you have a tan (brown) leather interior.

Thanks for all of the help. I checked Mac's web site and the mat for the '36 seems to be out of stock, but I think the mat for the '40 is in stock. However, in checking Carpenter's site, both are shown as being in stock in Benton Gray for $160 each. I will give them a call to see if this is correct and if so, will place an order. Mac's shows the small clips to hold the floor mats in place for both cars, but Carpenter's lists the small clips for 1932-1934 only. I am not familiar with these clips, so am wondering how many to order for each car (if needed). Both cars have the brown interior. Thanks again. Fritz

Carpenter has the correct clips for the '40. You need two of them. It seems to me that Carpenter is the only guy that (at the moment) has the Benton Gray mats. The other guys are selling taupe.
