I have asked everyone I see but not much information. I did stumble on a cool site just now that has a lot of info on Canadian 49-61 cars. The codes and stuff are actually quite different than on the US cars. http://www.valleycruisersnb.com/PDF/CanadianFordVINCodesIII.pdf Cheers, Scott. 1949 Custom Tudor. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e42/35thLE/49016.jpg

Scott, you might talk to other club members in the area about the code numbers on your car. Those numbers are included in the I.D. number. I suspect they may be the same codes as the U.S. cars but the serial number may include a "C" for Canada.

Thanks Mark, to Al and trjford, the Meteor was the Canada only car but there were also "regular" Fords built in Canada as well. I have a letter from Ford of Canada's Historical department telling me that the car was built in Windsor Ontario. I also know it was sold new in Canada because a friend of my father's bought the car 1n 1979 in Ontario and he spoke to the original owner about it back then. He bought it from the second owner. The photo in the link below is the Ford of Canada Windsor plant in 1913. They have been building Fords in the town to this day. http://www.windsorpubliclibrary.com/digi/sar/images/part1/fordofcan.jpg

I agree with Al on your car. It is U.S. built, so the V-8 Club's book on the 49-51 cars will help you a great deal.

Scott, from the picture of your car, it is not a Canadian built Ford, but rather, a regular old U.S. model that was brought into Canada at some time or other. The Canadian example would be a Meteor, not a Ford. And no, the 49-51 Book does not give info on the Meteor, Sorry. There is to be a new updated version of the book, and I imagine that it will have that info, but I haven't a clue on when it might be available. Alan

I am going to get one of those books one of these days and I am just wondering if that kind of information (paint codes, plant codes, etc) is provided for Canadian built cars as well.

I received the 49-50-51 book for Christmas. Have read it thru and found it extremely helpful and useful. Also, check out SHOEBOXFORD.COM This forum deals specifically with these 3 years. Good luck.
