If you are having a serious oil leak at the rear of the engine, it may be due to overfilling beyond four quarts.

Those early 21 stud engines did not have a rear main seal....just had a slinger on the rear of the crank. I don't think I would personally go to the trouble of replacing the front rope seal. Maybe think about putting some oil in the pan and tilting the engine forward enough to allow oil to pool up around the front seal. Let it sit like that for several days to allow seal to soak up some oil. Might work. JM

does 33 and 34 engines hve a rope rear main seal or does the slinger do the job. i have a rebuilt engin that been sitting around for 35 years do i need to pull crankshaft and put in new seal. do the dry out. thanks stephen miller
