If you have the original 40 Ford light switch, you turn the knob 90 degrees and pull it out. Then you can loosen and remove the nut that holds it to thye dash board. How are you doing with the voltage drop to your headlights?

on my light switch, the knob unscrews from the shaft. This will reveal a nut that holds the threaded part of the switch to the dash. Unscrew that and just push the switch out of the dash. On an original switch you may have to reach under the dash and push a button on top of the switch and release the shaft and knob as a unit.

I want to remove the light switch from the dash on my 40 Ford. I don't want to break it so I am asking for help. Does it unscrew or does it pull off? Thanks for your help. Bob
