I recently picked up four 16" x 4.5 Ford Wheels as part of a sale on an engine. Three of the wheels are clearly marked Ford/KH (Kelsey Hayes). The fourth wheel is nearly idenical but the four wheel vents are smaller. On the Ford/KH wheels, the vents are about 4.5 inches vs. the 2.0 inches on the FORD wheel. The opening also is much slimmer. Other than that the wheels appear identical with the same bolt pattern, rim width and center section. Any ideas why they are different?

The 16 X 4.5 wheels were used on commercial vehicles with 6.50-16 tires 45-47. The passenger cars used the 16" X 4" wheels with 600-16 tires, 40-48, and on commercial vehicles, 40-42. Differences in the vents is likely due to different vendors That supplied Ford.

Many thanks! The wheels came from a 47 Convertible. I'll probably use them on my 48 Woodie as a spare set.

I had the wheels professionally stripped and found both a Ford and a K-H on the one wheel. Same vendors - different years????

The K-H is likely Kelsey-Hayes, one of several suppliers of wheels to Ford.
