Can someone with a 36 woodie ID this woodie only part? I'm putting it back together and can't remember. http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/oo153/pjsauber/36parts-1.jpg

If you put a $100 bill there you will probably get a faster response. I am sorry that I do not know where the painted part fits, but it looks similar to the muffler rear support on later cars.

I don't have one off of the car. The rear muffler support on the 39-40 cars, is a strap that fits across the frame behind the muffler and a bracket similar to the tail pipe hanger fits into the center hole. The Chassis parts catalog shows a different arrangement on the 36, so my guess was probably wrong.

mrtexas: I've completely dismantled/reassembled 3 different 38's, in the past half-century and they all share a lot of wagon-only hardware with 35-36-37-39, with the biggest differences being in the tailgate and rear window areas. Like you, I just can't place it. Have you contacted the 35-36 adviser in the National Woodie Club? I don't have any access to any local 36's. The part really does look like the later muffler support plate, but I'm betting it is something we are missing, perhaps part of the tailgate restraint hardware, or fold up rear window storage hardware. Obviously, you painted it blue (for some reason). Most interior wagon hardware was a greenish-brown color during those years. The holes don't look big enough to be part of the typical wagon body bolts, so unless it is the aforementioned muffler support, it would have most likely been scr*w*d in place. Good Luck!
