Am looking at a new pair of Edelbrock heads for my 39 Merc motor, do I need to replace the studs or are the originals long enough? What head gaskets are the best to suit the same? Thanks in advance Mick

The studs should be the correct length, but what kind of shape are they in? If original, I'd replace them. Aluminum heads increase the electrolysis, and new studs will make later head removal easier. Be sure to use a good sealer on the block end. Your choice of gaskets is copper or steel. Again, to reduce problems with dissimilar metals, I'd go with the steel. Edelbrock has a good web site for questions.

The current Edelbrock heads for the '38-'48 24 stud engines will require all the studs to be long studs.
