My information came from the 1940 Chassis parts catalog. The defroster nozzles on the 38-39 open cars were different than the ones on a closed car. This particular part was used in all closed cars, Deluxe, Standard, 60 HP and 85 HP. Other hot air heater parts may fit both the 60 and 85 HP cars, but you would have to research them by checking on a P/N.

I guess the section on heaters in the 38/39 Ford Book was so large I missed it. I did find the information on the defroster unit which was for "'38 All and '39 60hp Closed cars as TomO stated. (page 7-14)

Thanks for the info. I understand its a 38 vehicle but can't find any documentation with the 81A-18470-A to assist with what model or engine. They were all different and the 38/39 Book does not acknowledge it nor does my 1946 Ford Parts Book. Anyone with an earlier Ford Parts Book may be able to help should you have one. Thanks

The kit you have is for the hot air heater in the 38-39 closed cars.

You may also want to contact Larry Caplan. he knows a lot about these heaters and has always been willing to share his knowledge.

The V-8 Club's 38-39 book has an entire section dedicated to the 38-39 heaters. It has many diagrams and photos on heaters.

the 81A prefix would tell you it is from 1938. Information on heaters and defrosters is hard to find is that most, if not all, such accessories were dealer installed.

I have a NOS Ford defroster kit (original box) that has #81A-18470-A on it. Can anyone assist in telling me what year, model and engine that unit is appropriate for. I can't find it in the materials I have. Thanks
