Is there an easy way to remove the drums from the hubs on my 1948 Ford? The hubs are outside the drums and I am going to replace the wheel studs.

sorry, not easy to do as the drums are held (swedged) by the wheel studs and sometimes rivits. The hubs must be removed from the axle.

There were two types of hubs used. Yours, with the flange on the outside of the hub, requires the use of a press to remove and replace the studs. The studs must be replaced with new ones to be pressed in when the new drums are in place. There is a knurled shank which is designed to keep them in place and prevent turning when the wheels are removed. Due to age and rust, we always tack weld the heads to the drum to be sure they don't move. If they do, it makes removing the wheel difficult or impossible.
