My 36 fuel guage is shot and its difficult to find a replacement. Also not sure of the sending unit. I was wondering that if I located a six volt fuel guage from the local old car shop to attach under the dash and then what would I look for in a six volt sending unit that would safely mount in the tank?? No.2 question--How to get into fordbarn and see the wiring diagrams and other info?? Thanks for suggestions

Are you sure it is your gauge or just the sending unit?

The guage shorted out and burned-trashed. Not sure about the sender but can purchase a new sender locally. Its the guage that is hard to find and thats why I am wondering about different systems.

You may find an old Stewart-Warner unit at a swap meet that would bolt under the dash. An option would be to check around for a later guage that would fit into your stock panel. Not sure, but the gauges up through 39 may fit into your panel and all you would have to do is change the gauge face. They all use the same sender.

Good afternoon, There is currently an NOS 68-9280-C 1936 Ford gas gauge for sale on Ebay. The seller is djwolf25 in McKinney, Texas. I'm not sure which version the -C 1936 gas gauge is, but it may simply be a late '36 part number. Hope this helps. Regards, Grant

J grif: You might want to give Baxter Ford Parts in Ks. a call. I have bought some hard to find NOS parts from them, and have been happy with the results. Open 9-5:30 weekdays---785-842-9256. Hope this helps....

You should check out the wiring from the gauge to the sending unit for a grounded condition. This could have caused your gauge to burn up. The sending unit can be repaired in most cases. You can check it out by prying off the top cover and visually examining the coil and wires. The coil should not be burned and the wires still attached to the contacts. If Baxter doesn't have the gauge face with the correct colors, you should be able to send him your gauge and he can then put your gauge face on a working gauge.
