I am looking for three items for my '47 sportsman. A solution or suggestion would be appreciated. (1) front floor mat that is original or reproduction of black rubber which has areas for sewn carpets on driver and passenger sides, (2) Original headlights which are 6 volts without bumps on lenses (smooth lenses), (3) right and left cowl mounted rear view mirrors. Sportsman's cowl mounted mirrors are a little larger than other models.

Are you sure that the Sportsman uses a different mat than the other convertibles? My 47 has a tan(taupe) mat from Drake. The mat is OK, but the carpet inserts are not bound, and difficult to attach. Drake does, or did, sell the sealed beam headlights without the bumps, and with the script. They also sell, or sold, the cowl mirrors, but the base didn't match the molding. They said that was the way they were, but they don't look that way. Given that the Sportsman is one of the rarest models, finding anything has to be an uphill job.

FYI, I ordered a pair of those headlights from Drake back in July. They are still on backorder. Ken

Thank you for your response. I am pretty sure that the Sportsman front floor mat has bound carpet inserts. I will investigate this further and get back to you. Due to another reply, it is my understanding that Drake had the appropriate headlights but they are now on backorder. I will be next in the back order line. I have the exact information that you have regarding the cowl mounted rear view mirrors. They are replicas where the base does not match the molding and are not attractive. Jack

Even though they may be on backorder from Drake some of the other V-8 vendors may have them in stock. Check the vendors section on the front page of this site.

Tom, Are you sure that these are the correct headlights with no adjusting lugs? They are very hard to find and this site does not say they are. Ken

The carpet inserts are not bound on the edges with anything. To replicate the original process that Ford used, the carpet inserts are sewed onto the backside of the rubber and then the rubber is cut away to expose the carpet. In the past, Standard Automotive in California had a repo rubber mat that had the outline for the inserts to use as a guide in the sewing, but they are no longer avaliable. You may be able to get the dimensions for the position and size of the inserts from someone wha has one of these repo mats. Bill Large ( Sportsman owner)
