Danny: If it is the stock Ford oil filter assembly, yes that would be the correct one. Ken

Of course back in the good old days I think it was JC Whitney or maybe Sears that sold a gadget that you installed in the filter so you could forget the special cartridges and just use rolls of toilet paper.

For the European V8 fans ,you can ask for a MANN filter PF 1155. You can use it in a AC and a Fram canister. Leo

I believe NAPA Gold filters are actually made by the WIX filter division of Dana Corporation. If you don't have a NAPA store near you, many independent parts stores carry WIX filters. The part number to fit the original Fram housing is 51006. This filter fits quite a number of industrial and agricultural engines; so is fairly common. Originally, these filter assemblies were made by Fram, and used a Fram F4 cartridge. Like most contemporary filters of the time, they used a metal perforated core that was wrapped with "cotton waste". The modern NAPA/WIX filters use a folded paper media identical to the full-flow spin-on filters on your "main ride". Even if you were able to "score" one of those 50's era toilet paper kits, I wouldn't recommend using it. In the fifties we had "John Wayne" toilet paper, which was of course, "rough, tough & wouldn't take c*** off of anything. The big thing in servicing these canisters is to really clean the housing, after removing the little metal "stool" in the bottom. There is a 1/4 inch drain plug in the bottom of most Fram canisters, but the best way is to use a suction gun, and remove all the oil, and carefully wipe out the housing. All the "bad stuff" ends up in the bottom of the canister, and sometimes you have to actually dig it out with a screwdriver. The advent of detergent oils in the 50's makes this less of a problem, as these oils tend to keep the carbon deposits in suspension.

Stroker, you say that the Fram F4 is stuffed with cotton as opposed to the modern folded paper type? I didn't know that, and have always used the F4's.
