Any idea what a 1938 ford model 81A, 4 dr phaeton is worth today, I know there were only 1169 built. I have the vin and body number but not sure how to look up information or value. This is an excellent driver quality vehicle that has been sitting for 20 years (on blocks) fluids and all taken care of, now we just want to get her going for auction or possible sale. Thanks

OLD CAR VALUE GUIDE, will shed some light on what you are looking for.buy at any good book store or magazine store, about $5.00 well worth the money, the market is a little soft right now, it might be better to wait if you have time, and CONDITION, CONDITION CONDITION is what really counts, to getting top dollar, AND ORIGINALLY is also most important to the PURISTS, this is only my 3 cents worth, 37RAGTOPMAN and KEEP ON TRUCKIN,,,!!!!!!!!!!

Value really comes down to the condition of the sheetmetal and how much of the car is still original.

fordfan, post a picture or a web link to pictures, otherwise we haven't a clue as to it's worth. Pictures say it all, the more the better.

Many libraries carry the price guides for old cars.

The OLD CARS WEEKLY price guide shows the '38 phaeton listed at $45,000 for #1 (perfect), $31,500 for #2, $20,250 for #3. There is also an antique car section in the NADA Blue Book posted on line. In general, open cars usually bring a premium price, in any case. As has been discussed at length here on the Forum, value always depends on subtle factors such as how anxious a prospective buyer is for that particular vehicle. Today's economy has skewed the car market toward the lower end of the price ranges.
