If you are looking for a sticky grease to hold the roller bearings in place as you assemble them into the transmission, you can use either Vaseline or conventional chassis lube grease.

I have plenty of 90W, but my understanding is that the prelube should be a very sticky grease that doesn't easily dilute with the 90W

You can use NAPA GL-1 90W Gear Oil which will be safe to use for your application. https://www.napaonline.com/en/search?text=manual%20transmission%20gear%20oil&referer=v2

I've always used Sta Lube Heavy Duty Bearing Grease (the green can) for wheel bearings and wondered if it would be a good prelube for a 39 transmission rebuild? Thanks
