I am considering converting my 53 Olds Super 88 to Flaming River electric PS.. It looks like a pretty simple conversion, of course my Olds is 12v, automatic trans. From my point of view, converting an EFV8 would be a whole different game. I modernized my '39 using a FATMAN front clip, power rack pinion, disk brakes.. Works great. Did the same thing to my '37 GMC with a later model inline six cylinder. To the average person both of these vehicles look like they are stock, original wheels and hub caps. with black wall tires.

Power steering for a '37+ Ford is just not a good fix for what ails it. A well set up Ford has effortless steering. Alan

i would mount the unit just above the steering box cut a sprocket in half fix it to steering shaft, another sprocket on the unit so its chain drive well away from shift levers. Problem is I know of No 6 volt units or I would do it. My father fabbed a few right hand steering wheels chain drive for the mail man back when they used their own cars .....

If you are willing to convert your 1940 Ford to floor shift for the transmission, the electric power steering installation will be much easier. If you want to keep the column shift, the conversion to electric power steering will be much more difficult.

Has anyone installed electric power steering like the EPAS universal kit in a ‘40 coupe? I am wondering about fitment, quality and durability of these kinds of kits
