All FLATHEADS NEED 20 30 RACING OIL WITH ZINK!!! The zinc protects the flat tappet cam in a flathead!! Backn the day that was what Ford used; then the epa took the zinc out!!Now it is available again- WHY? you say;who knows!

In my opinion the engines don't need zinc (low valve spring pressure. I've used plain 30W in both my Model A and 59AB with good results and available at at most stores. JMO Paul in CT

Those early engines had a steel camshaft and the lightest lifters you ever saw, plus only 35-40 lbs seat pressure. I don’t know what the concern is about using a zinc type oil , unless you are using a non steel cam and very high seat pressure. I have just done 4500 klms in my stock 34 , I just use a good brand 20/50 oil. The engine is as clean as inside. You can hardly hear the engine. Lawrie

Ask the builder! That way if something goes wrong for any reason they can't blame it on your using the wrong oil. Charlie Stephens

All flat tappet equipped engines require the zinc component to minimize wear.

Just buy oil with ZINK in it! It's readily avialable; That's what a flat tappet cam; "FLAT HEAD MOTORS" need to prevent ruining the cam and/or lifters!!

Use any brand you like, and any vicosity for the temperature you have where you are; but flat tappet cams;(all Ford Flatheads), require oil with Zinc in it to protect that cam!!
