The '37-39 steering box is the most common application to convert a '35-36, the reason being the 37-39 's had the head light switch mounted in the column., therefore, the 36 switch is easy to adapt to the steering gear. I used a '40 steering gear box and column in my 36. The 40 is the same size as a '37-39, the difference is the location of the head light and dimmer switch, dash and floor mounted start switch. I had already converted the location of the switches, including the start button. Regardless of what gear box you use you will have to change the frame mount to a '37-40 type. The 36 pitman arm is not a good fit on the later steering gears, it will work with modification using a 'Victor wrench'. After a lot of trial and error I used a 21-A 3590-3 015 ', 46-48 pitman arm.

Most everybody uses the 37-39 box in the earlier cars.
