A bit off subject, as the question was about 1936 pumps... Pumps beginning in 1937 were also engine green, but the shaft was masked off. 1936 may be different, I wouldn't know. And a detail not well known, the Ford Script did not appear on pumps until 1947.

Alan, the shaft was not masked off. Rather, the pump was assembled after the body and pulley were painted, the shaft remained in it's natural finish. And yes, you are 100% correct in that script pumps didn't appear until 1947. B. Bootle paid me $100 each for script cores even though I'd shown him a letter from Ford that clearly indicated they came about in 1947. Apparently ol' Benny had "seen it both ways".

Mike, assembly after paint makes sense to me. I’m just stuck in the 21st century thinking what to paint or not to paint with a fully assembled pump. Say what you will about Benny, but I’ll say he was the biggest V8 restoration motivator of his time, and his enthusiasm spilled over to all corners of the hobby.
