The fresh air heater intake mounted under the hood; is it suppose to be left natural finish or painted gloss black? Also the cross support for the heater intake. Thanks in advance for the responses.

I believe that they were both painted gloss black. This is from remembering my 47 Merc that was sold in 1953. To be sure check the 41-48 book.

If it's an early car, they're steel and painted black, if it's a late car, they're aluminum and left natural. Also, I restore these things and I've never seen an aluminum duct with a steel support bulkhead or visa versa.
