VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

If I use 40 backing plates etc. on a 36, what year wheels would fit...in other words, what years were the same as the 1940 bolt pattern and offset. Also, what is the recommended tire size for the 36 fender cavity and 40 wheel as far as backset (assuming the 1940 offset)? Whew!

The 40 wheel is 16X4 unless they were from a V-8 60 car and those were 16X3 1/2(very rare wheel). The 16X4 was used through 48 on the Fords.Bolt pattern and offset were the same through 48. The tire size used was a 6.00X16 which is the same size as the 36 tire. You can use 37-39 drums with the 40 backing plates. This will allow you to use stock 36 wheels and retain the stock look of your car.

Thanks TRJ! I'll check out the original drums next time I see the car, although I suspect serious wear. I do have 40 drums that seem fine (as close to 12.0 as my eye can tell), but I do like the 36 wheels and caps a lot more, so thanks for the insight!

TRJ: I swear that back in 1971, I bought new VW drums for my 39...am I dreaming or did they fit?

parrish, the VW drums do look very similiar to the 36 drums, but they will not work. If memory serves me the VW did not use tapered rear axles.I think they were splined.VW drums are also based on the metric system so the fronts would not work either.

I used the 40 backing plates and spindles on one of my 34's and could use the brake drums with the 5 1/2" stud pattern. The drums are the key to wheel choice. With the 40 drums, I could use any wheel 1928-1935, ranging in size 21" to 16" in wire wheels or the 1940
& up steel wheels. I used the optional 16" bent spoke wire wheels for the 1934 Ford. The key is what drums you use.
I've seen 1936 Fords with 1940 brake drums and 1935 Ford 16" wire wheels! Looked fantatic!!!

ok, almost there...what prevents the 36 drums from being used with the 40 backing plates? Aren't the 36 drums the same wide bolt pattern as 37-39 drums?

The 1936, 1937 & 1938 and I think the standard 1939 used a bolt pattern similar to the old wide VW wheels.
In 1940 Ford went back to the 5 X 5 1/2" lug pattern of the early cars on the brake drums.
The drums are what determine which wheel you can use.
Somebody else will have to tell you if the drums are interchangable. I'd like to know too.

The 36 drums have the same wide bolt pattern as the 37-39 drums, but the Green Book does not show them as interchangeable.

The drums are interchangeable, but there were some changes that a Concourse Judge may pick out as incorrect if later drums are used on a '36 or vice versa.
