All information that you provide to us for your membership is correct.

VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

I am brand new to this forum, living in Minnesota. I would like to locate and purchase a V8-60 engine that hasn't already been completely cherried out. What and where are my best chances of this happening? What should I expect to spend initially? Thank you---Dean

I would suggest you put an ad here in parts wanted and also go to http://www.fordbarn.com/ and place an ad there. You will have to register on Ford Barn to post there. You might also watch eBay. I bought 3 V860's there. Good luck. J.M.

Make sure when you buy one that it has been examined for cracks.Whether a V-8 60 or an 85 the block needs to be checked for cracks. Some can be repaired and some not. You don't want to spend good money on a block that cannot be repaired.

JM- what shape were the blocks in? any cracks. were they complete? cost? when buying on-line and at a distance how does one address things like a cracked block? ain't no money-back guarantees on these old cast iron mechanics from a former era.

trisailor, Your being in Minnesota, you're liable to find what you want at one of the numerous junkyards up there. Just wear high boots and don't stand in the tall grass!

Also, you would do well by checking with Little Dearborn in Twin Cities. They keep a bulletin board for the convenience of their customers. You'll likely have to go there, but someone there may be good enough to read the board for you. I do beleive you'll find some V860 parts there, like the water pumps. http://www.littledearborn.com/

Contact me at kalbach@wildbluepella.org. I might be able to help you, as I live in Iowa, and have some V8-60's that I need (because of space considerations, to part with. I know under Forum rules we are not supposed to list stuff anywhere but in the classifieds, but in this case, I believe we could satisfy a V8er to V8er need without getting the "dealers" involved. If this is a major problem, I'll withdraw my offer.

There is a running V8-60 listed in the Club Classifieds for $3,500 with transmission. If this engine, located in Michigan, has a good fully cast iron block, it might not be a bad idea to purchase it. I purchased a non-running, incomplete V8-60 engine in Hershey last year for $800. Parts for it so far have cost me over $2,000 and I still have to pay the machinist to overhaul it. They are out there, be patient and you'll get what you need.

trisailor, all of the V860 blocks that I purchased on eBay were good. The prices ranged from $250 to $400 at that time, about 5 years ago. One was an old hydroplane engine that came with all kinds of extra parts, one was a very low mileage engine that had been removed early in the cars life, and the other is a complete engine that I have not even taken apart yet. I see them for sale quite often in the places I mentioned in my first post. As someone else said be patient and keep looking, they are out there. J.M.
