The three-prong '36-39 bulb can be very difficult to remove from the receptacle, cotton gloves are a good idea. The attachment of the '36-39 bulbs are completely different from modern bulbs.

You might want to place a folded blanket or something in front of the fender just in case the lens slips. Same with the tail light lens.

For safety, make sure you are wearing a pair of gloves.

The first step is removing the stainless trim ring and then the lens. That will give you access to the bulb. The bulb then twists out just like any other automotive bulb.
