Recently, I put the top on my '46 down, took a drive with a car full of grandchildren, but could not put the top back up at the end of the ride. When inspecting the solenoid under the dash, it appears there is a loose wire in the vicinity (just above) the solenoid. Could this be a source of the problem? The wire appears to come through the firewall in the vicinity of the regulator. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the top solenoid? Can the top be raised manually in case I cannot fix the problem? I certainly would like to raise the top before the Oregon rainy season begins.

If my memory serves me correctly that wire goes to the diverter under the dash. There is another post on that diverter that goes to a 30 amp circuit breaker you might want to check there for your problem. I would not try to raise that top by hand with cylinders hooked. It would be a terrible strain on your frame & especially the front wood bow.

The top can be operated by hand if you disconnect the cylinders from the top irons . I have tried to post how I replaced the system in my '47 convertible, but this site will not receive it. I will try again later.

Thanks Flathead48 and Superreal. Both suggestions are very helpful. I will let you know the project outcome.
