At our shop we see more vehicles with fuel problems. Ethanol. in any concentration can, and will, attack most rubber items in vehicles manufactured in the 1970's and earlier. These include rubber or rubber lined fuel systems. The rubber becomes gummy and eventually falls apart. Here, in Iowa, the governor has campaigned for all service stations to offer ethanol in at least 15% alcohol amounts. Since non-alcohol gas is considerably more expensive, many opt to use cheaper alcohol fuel. Those of us with collector vehicles should protect them from harm, even with the cost difference.

Your engine, as built, has hardened valve seat inserts so no lead or other additives are required. Use of a good quality 87 Octane unleaded regular grade gasoline with 10% or less Ethanol is acceptable.

I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death..., but for some reason I can't bring it up in the search?? Anyway..., what gasoline and octane level is preferred for a 1937 Flathead V8-85? I always try and use "Top-Tier" gas for everything, but other that that, what's the consensus on preferred Gasoline?
