All information that you provide to us for your membership is correct.

VIEWING MULTIPLE TOPICS ON SCREEN: You can choose to see more than 10 Topics at a time ... Log In and choose "Preferences" from the top bar on the Forum page. Scroll down and Change the "Default Topics Returned" parameter to 25 or 50, and save the changes. Since this setting is stored in your browser 'cookies' (if enabled), it seems to use that stored value even if you are not logged in. So, if you use a PC that you haven't logged into the forum from, the setting still seem to remain at the default.
EXTERNAL PHOTO LINKS ON FORUM: You can still use external photo links in your posts on the new forum. They follow the rules of any link in that they have to have the URL link qualified down to the full image file name (example: .jpg). The links will open in a new browser window, the same as an uploaded image attached to a post. Since an image attachment to any post does not display inline with the post, the results are the same. You can use multiple external links within a post. This link is from photos on a site from Don Clink's 'Deuce@75' albums:

Using links from photo sites such as Photobucket can help in "size" issue with uploaded attachment files. For best viewing in web browsers, photos should be around the 800x600 pixel range, and probably not more than 1024x768. Most cameras today store HUGE jpg image files, as the default settings are in the 7, 8, 10, and 12Mb image sizes. The image files that are then attached are very large, and the browser can't display the full image size without using the scroll bars. Use the re-sizing functions of your photo editing software to reduce the image to 800x600, which reduces the file sixe and the image load time in the browser. Don uses Google's free Picassa3 software, which is an excellent photo management product. All of the photo albums of the Deuce, Grand National, and Auburn that are links on the NORG site were built using Picassa's web creation functions. And it's free? (THANKS to Don Clink for the info!)
HOW DO I SHOW MY EMAIL ADDRESS ALONG WITH MY USERNAME? You can LogIn on the Forum, and select PREFERENCES. On this page Members can add optional information such as their City,State, Country; Occupation; Hobbies: list a Homepage; list AOL Instant Messanger Handle; Signature; "Make Email Address viewable to others;" and even change the number of Default Topics shown on a page. WHEN others click on your profile, they will see this information.

This is what the social part of the Early Ford V-8 Club is all about.

V-8 Soap Box Driver, Riley, Takes First and will go to Akron, Ohio for the National Race & celebration!

The Soap Box Derby has been held annually since 1934. Originally it was a race of boy-built cars.
The first 1934 race was held in Dayton Ohio. In 1936 it moved to Akron Ohio because of its central location and hilly terrain.
Each year, with the exception of the time around World War II, youngsters from all over the United States and several foreign countries have come to Akron with the racers they have built and driven to victory in their home towns.
The goals of the Soap Box Derby program have not changed since it began. They are to teach kids the responsible spirit of competition.
Before the race there was a Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, and we were welcomed by three Teen-Age Princesses from surrounding towns and the Race Director Greg Fox. Greg Fox made a terrific speech to the kids about the value of this small town competition and the chance to be recognized nationally.

Now days the cars are not built by the competitors, they are Pro-Built to be Just Alike. Most are owned by The Kiwanis Clubs. The San Diego Regional Group V-8 Club owns and maintains our car and pays the entrance fee.

Scoring the races is complicated. There are two lanes and a launch ramp with a connected release that sends both cars off at the same moment. It’s one car per lane for the length of the course.
Then the same two cars race again, but on opposite lanes and with their wheels exchanged to prevent any secret modifications.
Timers at the finish line relay times to the Race Director.
This process is repeated all day until all racers have had their runs.
The times for each run are recorded and added up as the day goes on. The winner is announced at the end of the last race.
Trophies are handed out and the overall winner is told they’ll be going to Akron for Celebrations and the Big National Race for winners from towns all over the country.

But with all things these days, it takes funds to make things happen. Riley and her family could use your help to get them to Akron Ohio and back -- hopefully with an even bigger trophy and recognition. About this fundraiser:

In her first year as a soap box derby driver, Riley (age 10) with the support and fast car from the San Diego Regional Group of the Early Ford V-8 Club participated in the Alpine Kiwanis regional race. Showing her skills and determination as a competitior, she won the event and qualified for the First Energy All American in Akron Ohio.

Years ago m boss got heavily into Soap Box Derby with his three girls and son. He scoured the internet, etc, had me get 4 digital bathroom scales to help set it up. Went to the Nationals a few times.

FYI:
When you go to the GoFundMe page, you will see that you can enter any amount that you would like to donate. GoFundMe then adds a 'tip' on. You can change that 'tip' to any amount by clicking on Enter Custom Tip, making it larger or smaller. The 'tip' is the way that GoFundMe allows the service to continue to be free, but is not required.

How did Riley do at the Soapbox Derby
in Akron this past July?

According to August issue of The Ford Fan, the Regional Group publication of the San Diego Regional Group, Riley lost by 1/2 second to the winner.

Still a winner in our book and she represented the San Diego Regional Group and the Early Ford V-8 Club very well.
