To continue the window shade subject: Why did Henry design in a shade? Looking at 3w2's pic it has a string. .... shade pulling down. All the 36's pics so far pull up with no string. My 36 have eyelets in the wood cross member and shows no upper string connection. Maybe Henry's supply of wood cross member w/eyelets hadn't run out.

A review of the pix I attached of the rear window shade in my '36 clearly shows no srtings and the shade deploys from the bottom up..

To my knowledge, the 35 and 36 Coupe rear window shades did not have the strings on the ends. They do pull closed from the bottom and not pull done from the top.

I looked at my, in need of restoration, 1936 metal rod shade today. I see the fabric is swedged into the tubed rod. The snapping upper rod is made of wood with existing eye hooks at each end. The upper snap is in place, all shade material is brittle and the inner tube spring is operating. I don't see, except for the eye hooks, a reason for the string that will run up each side of the fabric. I think new fabric could be glued to the spring loaded rod.

Thanks for the information. The shade should be about 31 and 1/2 inch . The individual upholsterer , JT Interiors is looking in to making one. I forwarded some photos from club members.

I found a vendor who makes custom shades; awardblinds.com. 1 800 933-2616. I spoke with a salesperson about the project and there is potential to make something very similar to stock. Thanks for the replies.

Spring loaded roll up window shades in houses were very common from the early 1900's through the '50's. I would think that a roll up shade for an automobile could be sourced from an antique home furnishing store. Some place I have a metal roller shade assembly, I think it came out of a '31/32 Plymouth PB. I"ll have to look for it.

I don't know the actual diameter since I've never seen an original one except for pictures. I'm guessing about 5/8" to 3/4" outside diameter. My wooden roller replacement is 1" which I think is standard for a wooden shade roller. It looks and works fine but it's not like the original. The length of the original should be 31 1/2" for a 5 window coupe. Not sure if your Vicky window is wider or not. If you compare the picture of my shade to the picture of the original car shade you can see mine is larger diameter.
