I have a 1930 chassis left over from a project and would like to put a roadster body on it, can I buy a 1930 title and register it as a 1930 ford roadster?

Nope. You'd have title to the piece of paper you bought, that's all.

You can apply for a title based on the VIN that is stamped on the frame. Title Services are in Hemmings and the one I used years ago was Broadway Title. No problem with the transaction.

Check with your state DMV. Many states will not accept a title from Broadway title.

Here, in Iowa, the DMV will not even look at a title from a "title mill". They will, however, assist in registering a car as a "home built" if you are up front with them. If you can't find a number on the frame, a new number will be assigned, at least here. It important that the vehicle meet all codes, of course. This process came about when many tried to register street rods worth big bucks as an old car worth much less, and evade the higher "use tax" at registration.
