Seems I recall threads discussing the importance of not overfilling differential oil - suggesting doing so can cause leakage past the axel steals, and not to fill over 1 inch below the plug hole. Filled my yesterday during oil change and am afraid I may have gone over and should remove a little. Appreciate any comments.

Personally I've never heard to fill it one inch below the plug. new one on me. I fill it as prescribed by Ford and have never had an issue.

I have aways filled both the transmission and rear to the fill hole. I would think that if Ford wanted it lower, that's where he would have put the hole. The person that started that discussion might need to replace his axle seals.

Fill all the way up to the fill hole.
