Bought a 1937 Ford 2 door "opera coupe" model 78 some years ago and have some questions that I find conflicting answers. The car is pretty much original...have clock in glove compartment door, radio, both tail lights, small windows behind doors that open and a full read seat. The roof line seems to be slightly higher than normal...enough head room in back seat for me (6'3"). I think it is probably the 770B variation but unsure. I have been told there was no "Opera coupe". Also told no back seat but rather fold down side seats. The car appears longer than what is commonly called the business coupe. Any thoughts or direction appreciated.

A picture would be very helpful. According to The V-8 Album published by the Early Ford V-8 Club the only coupe produced in 1937 was the 5 window coupe. This was Standard 78-770A and Deluxe 78-770B. Neither had a rear seat or folding jump seats. Are you sure you don't have a Tudor Sedan either 700A or 700B?

You have a '37 club coupe. That body style was '37 and '38 only. Chassis is the same as all '37 passenger cars. The main difference is the roof is longer and a little higher than a regular coupe. It does in fact have a full back seat and the quarter windows do tip out for ventilation. They came in the deluxe model only. I have owned both a '37 and '38 club coupes. Production was fairly low in both years of that body style. Purchase the V-8 Club's 1937 book and it will be listed in there.
