Re hood prop: There is some risk to having the hood prop on a '37 or '38. Prop supports hood close to hinge, with about 3/4 of hood cantilevered out beyond the prop. Hood can get bent. I chose to leave the prop off my '37. See this earlier discussion: https://www.earlyfordv8.org/forum/viewmessages.cfm?forum=18&topic=12441

The car in the picture in my original post is not mine. I ran across it a couple years ago and saved it. Here is a pic of my current 37 project. It goes verrrrrrrrry slow and needs lottttttttts of work. Gregg

The correct radiator hoses have the section that fits over the head outlet larger then the section that goes to the radiator. That change to the smaller size is what holds the correct thermostat in place. They are installed in the head opening with the operating portion in the head.

1 full turn out from closed position (gently) maybe 1/4 turn more or less should be the smoothest running. Ive use 180 stats in a 36 for yrs, work good. ken ct

One last question--do you use thermostats, if so what temp, do you install them on the radiator outlets with the cone pointing in and if so what keeps them there--mine has none and seems to run about 160. As you can tell I am new to the flathead having had a Model A before.
