HI--new to the 37 Ford. I just got the car and wanted to change the oil. Ordered new filter and gasket. When I installed then the oil filter and started the engine oil is gushing out of the filter as the ring is not quite the same size as the original--any comments. I tried gasket compound but no good. Thanks. ps--the oil plug was huge, but I found a 2" socket is the right fit as I see others had this problem of trying to get it off.

'37 Ford's normally were not equipped with oil filters. You must have an accessory oil filter or you have a 1949 or later Flathead engine. I would reuse the original gasket. What is the part number of the new filter? Post a picture of the engine you have...

Retrieve the gasket you tossed or resign yourself to making a new gasket from scratch. Or, maybe a different brand oil filter will have the correct size gasket. I ran into this same problem when I replaced the FRAM filter in my '53 - I had to use the old gasket... https://www.amazon.com/Rubber-Sheet-Warehouse-Neoprene-Commercial/dp/B01CGY40US/ref=sr_1_105?keywords=gasket+material+oil+resistant&qid=1581051827&sr=8-105

If you have the filter housing that takes the Fram C-4 cartridge, try the WIX 51006 cartridge or NAPA FIL 1006. People seem to have better luck with those. Try the gasket before you use the filter, so you can return the filter if needed

The Fram filters I buy have gaskets included, and they fit snug into the oil filter cap so they don’t fall off when installing the cap.

Solved problem with NAPA fil 1006--it comes with 2 O rings, one of which fits perfectly and the filter is an exact replacement also ($19.99)--the key is then to torque the cover bold just tight enough to stop seeping of oil from the top of the canister that holds the filter.
