Has been a long time since taking the trunk and latch mechanism off - put trunk lid on hinges to check fit and put latch and striker in place as it looks to go but I can't figure out how this is suppose to latch? Looked through vendor catalogues and don't see any parts that I don't have - could use a drawing or close picture of how it works.

Bill are you saying that you put it all together and it is not latching? On the striker there is some adjustment back and forth via the slotted holes on the trunk/tool tray brace. Did you do any floor pan work on the back of the car or work on the deck lid?

All related parts are original - must just be me but I don't see what latches, it seems to just push in and out against the striker.

The latch should catch on the striker. You may have to shim the striker upwards and maybe backwards. If everything is original then it should work. Is the spring good in the latch?
