Marilyn, The 8BA engine was used on 49-51 Fords. 1949 engines were painted blue, 50 & 51 were bronze. Ken

The 8BA was continued thru the '53 model year, and first appeared in late '48 with the "'49" cars.

Super, Not to be "super"-picky, the 52-53 Ford engines are generally known as the EAB engine. Ken

The truck engine was essentially the same as the 8BA (except for the oil pan?). It was used from 1948 through 1953 and was referred to as 8RT for the entire run. Ford car engines were generally dark blue in 1949 and changed to bronze in late 1949 production through 1951. For 1952 and 1953, the car engine was either tangerine red or green. The truck engine was red from 1948 through 1951 and changed to green for 1952 and 1953. Car engines were designated EAB for 1952 and 1953. Richard

Ken: True. I assume the change was due to the adoption of the "skinny" belts, while the 8RT continued the wide belt system. My intent was to reflect that the basic engine configuration from '49 thru '53 was the same. I often refer to my '53 Ford trunk shop manual for specs for those years.
